// beneath the stars //

some of my favorite thoughts are about stars.

not just the twinkling lights in the sky,

but the roaring balls of fire millions of miles away that light up our sky.

the ones that somehow, in all their raging plasma,

give us the feeling of serenity.

they're so simple, yet so vast.

it is at night in the cool after the heat, staring up at the infinity of stars

that humans gather together in mind and hearts

and realize just how small we are.

we are small beings, gifted with thought and freedom of actions,

that live less than a hundred years, and fight and live and survive

on the only planet that can sustain life,

the only planet that has the perfect star, that we so lovingly named the SUN,

to give us warmth and renewed strength.

this star was perfectly placed by a perfect GOD,

a centimeter closer and we would die the death of being burned alive, instantly.

a centimeter farther away and we would freeze, just as instantly.

and we lay in the grass and contemplate why we're here,

what our purpose is,

what is beyond the millions of star,

we lay and try to wrap our minds around the fact that there are hundreds, millions, of galaxy's beside ours,

that there is no end to space, it just goes
 ON
AND          ON
A N D        O N
 F O R E V E R

 {into infinity}

between each star,

there is an endless emptiness of nothing.

it is cold and vacant,

there is no gravity,

no noise,

no life.
. . . . .

we've named these stars,

in moments of love,

and pass them down to each generation.

we point to the stars and say

"look, those are called the PLEIADES, the seven sisters,

that is ORION and his mighty bow,

there's LEO, the lion killed by hercules,

and HYADES, the five sisters who weep for their brother's death."

for while we change,

and the earth with us,

the stars do not.

i've come to realize that even just being alive being able to breathe,
is something grand and something to be celebrated daily.

  3. Dear Evelyn,

I just found your blog and I'm so glad I did. Your words are absolutely beautiful and you have SUCH talent. Just know that. This poem is gorgeous and so true. I espeically love how you said "the ones that somehow, in all their raging plasma, give us the feeling of serenity." It's so beautiful and profound to think about how distance can make a beast into a quiet point of light. Keep writing and dreaming and being who you are. It's awesome. (:

    love,
